Here are five Halloween-themed dog treat recipes that use natural ingredients, focusing on vegetables, including pumpkin. Each recipe is designed to be safe and delicious for your furry friends.

1. Pumpkin and Peanut Butter Dog Treats

Ingredients:

1 cup pumpkin puree (not the spiced pie filling)

1/2 cup natural peanut butter (ensure it has no xylitol)

2 cups whole wheat flour

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

1 egg

Instructions:

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).

In a mixing bowl, combine pumpkin puree, peanut butter, and the egg. Mix until smooth.

Gradually add the whole wheat flour and cinnamon, stirring until a dough forms.

Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/2 inch thick.

Cut into shapes using cookie cutters (pumpkin shapes would be perfect for Halloween).

Place on a lined baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.

Let cool before serving to your dog.

2. Sweet Potato Halloween Bites

Ingredients:

1 large sweet potato

1 cup oat flour (you can blend oats to make your own)

1/4 cup coconut oil, melted

1/2 teaspoon turmeric (optional, for colour)

Instructions:

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).

Peel and cube the sweet potato, then steam or boil until tender.

Mash the sweet potato in a bowl and let it cool slightly.

Mix in the oat flour, melted coconut oil, and turmeric until well combined.

Roll into small balls and place on a lined baking sheet.

Bake for about 15-20 minutes until firm.

Allow to cool before giving them to your dog.

3. Carrot and Apple Chews

Ingredients:

1 cup grated carrots

1 cup grated apple (remove seeds and core)

1/2 cup oats

1/2 cup whole wheat flour

1 egg

Instructions:

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).

In a bowl, mix grated carrots, grated apple, oats, and whole wheat flour.

Add the egg and mix until everything is combined.

Spoon small amounts of the mixture onto a lined baking sheet.

Flatten each scoop slightly with a fork.

Bake for about 25 minutes or until golden brown.

Let cool completely before serving.

1 cup cooked beetroot, pureed

1 cup pumpkin puree
